Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Parishioners and Friends in Christ,

Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King of the Universe.  The Gospel takes us to Jesus being ridiculed as He is hanging on the cross.  Jesus doesn’t let the insults change Him or fill Him with anger.  Instead He keeps on loving and even praying for those who are executing Him.  He will take care of the Good Thief by forgiving his sins and promising him paradise.  Jesus has a servant’s heart.  He came to serve and give His life as a ransom for the many (see Matthew 20:28 and Mark 10:45).  Jesus describes heaven as the place God will have us sit at table and wait on us (see Luke 12:37).  It is amazing that Jesus as king wants to serve and take care of each one of us.  That doesn’t mean He will give us what we want, it does mean that He will give us what we need and what is best for us.  When we get home to heaven and review our life with God we will better understand why things happened the way they did.  Until that time we need to still our souls and rest in God’s loving embrace (see psalm 131).

This saying from St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta can help us as we try to follow Jesus our King.

People are often unreasonable and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are honest, people may cheat you.  Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.  Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It never was between you and them anyway.

by Mother Teresa

May our servant-king, Jesus Christ enable us to follow His example of serving, forgiving, loving and become a blessing to those around us.

Peace and joy,

Fr. David
