Sanctity of Marriage

Dear Friends in Christ,

           Today’s Scriptures talk about the sanctity of marriage.  The first reading reminds us that man and woman complete each other in marriage as they give their lives to each other.  The Gospel emphasizes that all people are made in the image and likeness of God.  Therefore, we are challenged to look beyond a person’s faults and see their innate goodness and do all that we can to bring that goodness to life.  In marriage each spouse tries to help the other spouse strengthen their good qualities and lessen their bad ones.  This can only be done with respect for each other, good communication and a strong prayer life.  Society today does not support couples in this life long commitment, so we as the people of God must help them by our examples and words of support.

May the Holy Spirit help us to treat each other with respect and love.  In times of conflict, may Jesus who is the Prince of Peace, help everyone find the path to healing and peaceful solutions.
