Deeply Experience the Mass
From the Desk of Father David
Dear Parishioners and Friends in Christ,
When we live on the surface we miss so much. An unbeliever looking at our Eucharistic celebration would not be impressed. A person of deep faith sees it as the greatest banquet on earth. A banquet where God feeds us with His Son’s Word, Body and Blood. This food is meant to strengthen us by creating a stronger bond with Jesus. It is not about feelings, or getting some insight, it is about coming to give thanks to God for all the blessings we have received during this past week and saying yes to His invitation to come to His house for a banquet. It is a time to tell Jesus we love Him, and to receive His love.
Here are some suggestions to help us to deeply experience the Mass: 1. dress up – we wear special clothes when we are going somewhere special, Eucharist is special. Plus our clothes help others to pray and not be distracted.
2. Try to read the scriptures ahead of time. The references for the readings are on the front of the bulletin, or you can go to www.bible.usccb.org/readings. 3. A few minutes before Mass ask for God’s assistance to help you be really present to Him. 4. Pray with all your heart, because that helps those around you to pray devoutly. 5. Any distractions offer them to the Lord Jesus, don’t fight them, and return your attention back to the Mass. What other suggestions can you come up with?
Almighty God thank You for the beautiful gift of Your Son. Lord Jesus may our hearts always burn with a desire to receive you in the Eucharist and may we do all we can to call others back to the Eucharist.
In Christ,
Fr. David
