Rely on the Guidance of God

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Friends in Christ,

In Sunday’s first reading we heard, “Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores. The Lord took me from following the flock, and said to me, go, prophesy to my people Israel.’”  We know Amos was a person who spent time growing closer to God and tried to understand what He was telling him, otherwise Amos would have not known to leave his profession and would not have known where God wanted him to go and what to say.  Also notice that Amos did not have any special training to become God’s messenger.  Amos as well as the disciples are asked to totally rely on the guidance of God for their physical and spiritual needs.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked you to do something that would deepen your relationship with Jesus.  Did you do something?  It doesn’t matter how large or small.  Was it beneficial?  Are you trying to grow closer to Christ?  In today’s bulletin is information about how to pray the Examen, which is one way of experiencing God presence in your life.  Please try praying this way for a week.

Also, be aware of information overload and listening to the wrong people because this creates problems in experiencing Jesus’ presence.  Slowing down and adding silence to our busy days can help reorientate us to Christ and give us the peace we need.

May Jesus shatter the illusions of our world and fill us with peace and wisdom.

In peace and healing,

Fr. David
