Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms!

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Friends in Christ,

Happy Mother’s Day to all Moms!

The staff along with myself would like to wish all mothers, grandmothers, godmothers and those who take the role of a mother a happy and blessed Mothers’ Day.

Today’s Gospel, starts with the profound statement by Jesus, “As the Father loves me, I love you.”  Again Jesus is emphasizing His intimate connection with each of us and calls us to live in His love by loving one another.  Some believe the Sacrament of Penance is about forgiving sins.  That is partially true, it is also meant to be a celebration of the sins that God has already forgiven.  In this Sacrament we see God’s desire to celebrate with us.  It is like the celebration we hear about in St. Luke’s Gospel in the telling of the Prodigal Son parable.  In the parables of the Lost Sheep and Lost Coin, Jesus emphasizes the celebration in heaven over one repentant sinner.  Not just when you repent but all through your life Jesus celebrates you.

A reflection of this beautiful love is seen in our mothers.  Today as we celebrate all mothers, we thank Almighty God for the wonderful gift of our mothers.  We ask Jesus with His Mother Mary to watch over them and grant the strength and wisdom they need to be good mothers.  For those mothers who have journeyed home to you, we thank you for welcoming them into heaven and for keeping us connected with them.

May Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph intercede for all mothers, bless them with abundance of love and grant them their hearts’ desire.

In Easter joy,

Fr. David
