Anointing of the Sick

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Parishioners and Friends in Christ,

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, which used to be called Last Rites, is not just for the dying.  It was called Last Rites when you could only receive it once in your life.  People waited until they were dying asking for the greatest healing, which is to make it home to heaven.  The Second Vatican Council restored this Sacrament to where a person can receive it as often as needed.  They made this change because that is how the Sacrament is mentioned in the Scriptures and how the early Church celebrated it.  It saddens me that many times parishioners who are sick, going for surgery or have a loved one who is sick do not ask for God’s help through this beautiful Sacrament.  There are different prayers for different situations, including the dying.  I have seen so many wonderful miracles happen through this Sacrament, some physical, emotional, and spiritual.  Remember in every Sacrament the Lord Jesus powerfully touches the person to renew and strengthen them.

Because of the Virus we do not have Anointing of the Sick Masses, but I do it on individual basis.  Call the rectory at 674-2374 and we can set up a time for the Anointing of the Sick.

May the Divine Physician, Jesus Christ, send forth His healing power into our world.

In Christ’s peace,

Fr. David
