Jesus our King

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Friends in Christ,

“Yet precisely on the cross, Jesus is exalted to the very height of the God who is love.  It is there that he can be known.  Jesus gives us life because he gives us God.  He can give God because he himself is one with God… Jesus from the throne of the Cross welcomes every human being with infinite mercy” – Pope Benedict XVI

The world thinks of a king in beautiful robes, living in a gorgeous palace and surrounded by servants.  The Church looks at her King hanging on a cross.  Why?- because her King is not one who suppresses His subjects but one who loves His subjects so much that He is willing to die for them so they can live with Him forever in heaven.  It is very hard for us to comprehend the depth of this love.  All we can do is surrender to this love and show our appreciation to Jesus by loving one another.

This week as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Day may we plan to attend Mass either on Wednesday night at 7:00 pm or on Thanksgiving Day at 10:00 am.  May Thanksgiving Day not be centered around the television, but around Christ.  May we share memories and laughter with grateful hearts.  May all families that are in conflict want reconciliation.  May they find the Prince of Peace in the middle of their struggles and find peaceful resolutions.

Jesus be not our Savor but be the King of our life, Church and world.  Help us to build Your Kingdom by celebrating Your love and by doing small acts of kindnesses with love.

In Christ’s peace,

Fr. David
