Dear Friends in Christ,

             To help you prepare for Holy Week and Easter, read the following words from St. Peter slowly and reflect upon them.  You might choose to read them a couple of times so they will take a hold of you.  “Realize that you were delivered from the futile way of life your fathers handed onto you, not by any diminishable sum of silver or gold, but by Christ’s blood beyond all price: the blood of a spotless, unblemished Lamb chosen before the world’s foundation and revealed for your sake in these last days. It is through Him that you are believers in God, the God who raised Jesus from the dead and gave him glory. Your faith and hope, then are centered in God.” (1 Peter 1:18-21)

How thankful are you that Jesus was willing to shed His blood on the cross to save you and your loved ones?   Before Jesus became human, He had full access to His Divinity.  In other words, He knew everything about you.  So when He said “yes” to His Father to become human, to live and die for us, Jesus knew us personally and wanted to save us.  That is why the Church teaches that if you were the only person who would ever live, Jesus would still have come and died for you.  That is amazing!

Can you make time in your schedule to come this week to all the special celebrations of our High Holy Days?  These sacred gatherings transport us back in time to walk with Jesus.

As Catholics we believe that in these celebrations we are encountering Jesus and experiencing His saving love.  We are not just remembering what happened, but in a mysterious way our lives, joys, and struggles are being intrinsically united to Christ’s journey to the cross and His powerful resurrection.

This Monday, April 15th, is the penance service for our area starting at 3 o’clock and then at 7 o’clock.  In between those time periods the priest will break for dinner.  There will be many priest to hear your confession.  Please come and receive God’s mercy and also check out the times of the celebrations this week.

May we pray for each other and walk with Christ in a special way this week.  May Jesus take us close to Himself and give us the abundance of His life.
