Here I am Lord … 10-Feb-2019

From the Desk of Father David

Dear Friends in Christ,

Sometimes it is easy to sing a song but, to live it is a different story.  The song “Here I am Lord” is based on today’s first reading.  It is a very popular song and people enjoy singing it.  God asks the question “Whom shall I send?” Then the refrain follows “Here I am Lord, is it I Lord? I have heard You calling in the night.  I will go Lord, if you send me.”  We sang this song a lot at Christ the King youth masses. One day I received a call from Bishop Head’s office asking me to move to a new parish to be their pastor.  I remember saying to myself,  it is time to live the song and not just say the words here I am.  I had to move out of my comfort zone into the unknown, trusting that Jesus will be there to guide me.  To grow into the person we were created to be we need to move out of our comfort zones.  Every time you say “yes” to be more loving, forgiving, and compassionate, you are saying yes to the Lord.  Is there something special God is asking of you?

May the Lord God enable us to quiet our hearts to hear His voice and respond with great courage.  May Jesus help us not worry about results, but glory in the fact we are doing His will, which sooner or later bears fruit that will last.  Just think two thousand five hundred years later we are still remembering the writings of Isaiah.

Peace,

Fr. David
